(More customer reviews)Yes, you need the Olympus DSS Software to get this footpedal to work.Once installed and connected, this three way pedal controls the Play, FastForward and Reverse "VCR Buttons" displayed in the DSS Software display. Combined with the Olympus Digital Audio Recorders, I'm much better able to capture and document User requirements during functional discovery sessions. (I purchased three of these pedals.)

Control playback, FF and REW without taking your fingers off of the keyboard!Please note the RS-25 does not come with DSS software required to utilize this footswitch. If you need DSS software with footswitch functionality, purchase the AS-2300 or AS-4000 Transcription kit. Both kits contain a version of the DSS software that has footswitch functionality, the RS-25 footswitch, and the E-102 headset. We recommend the AS-4000 kit for business transcription. The DSS Player Pro software included in the AS-4000 kit is geared for someone who needs to track the progress of multiple files or customers such as in an office situation.
